About the division
This division studies life in context: within ecosystems, geological processes, climates, and changing human landscapes. It joins field observation with laboratory measurement, computational analysis, and historical reconstruction.
Programs emphasize rigorous sampling, uncertainty, reproducibility, and the ethical interpretation of biological and environmental data. Students learn to move from specimen or signal to system-level explanation without overclaiming what the evidence can support.
